The riser ESDV was outside of its performance limits and repair or replacement were being considered. Failure of the valve meant the associated pipeline was shutdown and so schedule was an imperative. In-line repair was selected. Challenges included safe isolation from hydrocarbons, access to the valve, design of the solution, sourcing materials for the repair, procedures and resources as well as management of risk and SIMOPS and stakeholder engagement.
Success lay in the Risk Management across the multiple work fronts, open dialogue and a keen focus on safety first.
